Mover’s spotlight

Name: Christine Valls

New job: Managing director of sales for Florida, Latin America, the Caribbean and the U.S. Latin market at American Airlines. She will lead the airline’s passenger sales revenue, agency and corporate relationships in these markets.

From: Regional sales director for Mexico, Central and South America.

Experience: Valls began at American in 1991 as a customer service representative and rose through the ranks in a number of sales and sales planning positions, also leading American’s interactive marketing efforts in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Also: Valls, a Florida native who was raised in Puerto Rico, is replacing Peter Vittori, who recently announced his retirement after 32 years with the airline.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration from American University in Washington, D.C.

Best advice: My parents always said to me: “Don’t focus on others’ successes or failures, instead focus on being your best self.” This came very handy the numerous times that I played basketball in an all-boys league and it has also permeated my professional life.
