Senior-level hires and promotions for the week of Sept. 3, 2018

ACCOUNTING

Brian A. Schlang has been named a principal in the tax and accounting department at MBAF. He was previously a director. Schlang, a CPA, has a bachelor’s, and a master’s, in accounting from the University of Florida.

ARTS

Lauren Snelling has been named senior director of alumni programming at The National YoungArts Foundation. She was founding artistic director of OZ Arts in Nashville. Snelling has a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

CONSTRUCTION

Graeme Kelly has been named senior vice president at Skanska USA, and he will be based in the Fort Lauderdale and Miami offices. He will lead the company’s business operations in southeast Florida. Kelly was previously operations manager for Florida. He has a bachelor’s in building construction technology from Leeds Polytechnic in England.

EDUCATION

Jay Goulart has been named vice president for institutional advancement at Gulliver. He was director of development at Tampa Prep.

At NSU University School, a private college prep school for grades JK-12:

▪ Matthew Laliberte has been named Upper School director. He was interim head of the Upper School at Saint Andrew’s School in Boca Raton.

▪ Donna Tobey has been named Lower School director. She was head of the Lower School at Palm Beach Day Academy.

FOOD

Jaime Cohen Szulc has been named chief executive officer at Bread Partners, a restaurant operator and management company based in Miami. He was previously CEO of International Meal Company.

Philippe Moullet is managing partner of the newly opened Novikov Restaurant & Bar Miami. He was previously COO, F&B of Pragma Group in Dubai.

LAW

Diamela del Castillo-Payet has joined Shutts & Bowen in Miami as a partner in the tax and international law practice group. She was previously an attorney at Foley & Lardner. Del Castillo-Payet has a bachelor’s, and a J.D., from the University of Miami.

Laura Ganoza, partner at Foley & Lardner, has been appointed chair of the litigation practice in the firm’s Miami office. Ganoza is regional director for the South Florida chapter of the Fashion Group International, a global nonprofit with members in the fashion industry. She has a bachelor’s from the University of Florida and a J.D. from New York University.

Katina M. Hardee has joined Fowler White Burnett as a shareholder in the firm’s insurance practice group. She was previously an attorney at Callahan & Fusco. Hardee has a J.D. from the Mississippi College School of Law.

Name: Pete Tuffo

New position: President and general manager of the Southeast region of Suffolk, a national construction management firm. He will oversee offices in Tampa, Estero and West Palm Beach as well as Miami, where he will be based.

From: He joined the company in 2012 as vice president of the company’s southwest Florida operations.

About: Suffolk is a $3 billion national construction management firm that has experienced a steady revenue climb in recent years and projects another 20 percent increase in 2018. The company has added more than 200 employees in the past three years, including 60 professionals along Florida’s Gulf Coast and over 150 on Florida’s East Coast.

Education: Tuffo has a bachelor’s in construction management from Western Michigan University.

Best advice: While technical skills will always be important, you can never underestimate the value of how you communicate and work with the people around you. Relationships are everything.
