Senior-level hires and promotions for the week of August 6, 2018
Accounting
Ileana Salort-Horta has been named principal of operations at MBAF, and will also serve as the acting chief operations officer of the firm. She has a bachelor’s in accounting and management, and a master’s in taxation, from Florida International University.
BANKS
Nelson Lopez joins Grove Bank & Trust as vice president and market manager serving the Aventura and South Broward markets. He’ll be responsible for the growth and profitability of the bank’s Aventura office. He was previously vice president and operations manager at Popular Bank. Lopez has a bachelor’s in business administration from Florida Atlantic University.
HEALTHCARE
Katherine “Kathy” Ross has been named chief information officer at Broward Health. She most recently was chief information officer at Stony Brook Medicine in New York. Ross has a bachelor’s in management information systems from Barry University and an MBA from Nova Southeastern University.
HOSPITALITY
Thomas Becker has been named senior vice president of operations at Virgin Hotels, the lifestyle hotel brand of Richard Branson, and will be based in Miami. Becker was most recently area managing director for Two Roads Hospitality overseeing Ventana Big Sur and Carmel Valley Ranch in California. He is a graduate of Cornell.
Jackie Martinez has been named director of spa and retail for PURE Spa at Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale. She was previously director of spa at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton.
LAW
Heidi Howard Tandy has taken on the role of chair of the intellectual property group at Price, Benowitz in Miami Beach. Tandy, who is of counsel at the firm, has focused her practice on trademarks, transformative use and other related areas. Tandy has a bachelor’s from the University of Pennsylvania and a J.D. from American University.
REAL ESTATE
Richard Edwards has been named as executive vice president and managing director at Metro 1 for the North Miami-Dade and Broward markets. He was president and owner of Edwards Realty Services.
David Markovich has been named director of international sales at Four Seasons Private Residences Fort Lauderdale, a project by Fort Partners. He was previously president of development sales and acquisitions at Decorus Realty Group.

New position: Director of condo-hotel operations for Fontainebleau Miami Beach
From: Assistant director of rooms at Four Season Resort Orlando.
Also: Sutter began his career at Fontainebleau in 2010 as a front office agent and held several position as the resort, including front office supervisor, front office manager and hotel manager. He was director of front office before relocating to Orlando in November 2016. Sutter has also held positions at American Cruise Lines, Emerald Grande Resort and Omni Jacksonville Hotel.
Education: Bachelor’s in hospitality management from Florida State University.
