Brian Flores dropped a bombshell Tuesday, filing a class-action lawsuit against the Miami Dolphins and the NFL, alleging racial discrimination in its hiring and firing process, including a “sham interview” with the New York Giants after the Dolphins fired him last month.

In the 58-page lawsuit, Flores, who was fired Jan. 10 after three seasons in Miami, claims he was dismissed because of his reluctance to “tank” during the 2019 NFL season and his unwillingness “to recruit a prominent quarterback in violation of League tampering rules.”

Flores alleges that Dolphins owner Stephen Ross offered him $100,000 for each loss Miami incurred in the 2019 season, Flores’ first with Miami, in an attempt to get a higher draft pick.

The Dolphins denied the allegations in a statement.

The lawsuit also contains texts Flores says are from New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, who had mistakenly congratulated Flores for getting the New York Giants job days before Flores actually interviewed when the texts were actually meant for Brian Daboll, who got the job.

According to the lawsuit, that led Flores to believe the interview with the Giants was only conducted to fulfill the NFL’s Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview two external minority candidate for head coaching vacancies.
