Live Updates: No. 5 Miami Hurricanes blow out Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 45-3
The game went as expected.
The No. 5 Miami Hurricanes blew out an inferior opponent, thrashing FCS-level Bethune-Cookman 45-3 on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium. Starters were out of the game by the midway mark of the third quarter after the offense scored on all five possessions orchestrated by quarterback Carson Beck. The Hurricanes’ reserves got valuable in-game reps.
Exactly how you draw it up in a game like this.
Freshmen making an impact
Girard Pringle had a 30-yard touchdown. Bryce Fitzgerald logged an interception.
Some true freshmen getting quality reps and making the most of them.
Miami backups in on offense
Emory Williams is in at quarterback for Miami. Carson Beck finishes the game 22 of 24 for 267 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Hurricanes defense forces a turnover
Bethune-Cookman was driving on its first drive of the second half, getting to the UM 25 ... and then the Hurricanes get a turnover. Fumble on a sack by Rueben Bain and Mo Toure. Chase Smith recovers.
That’s three turnovers in two games for the Miami defense.
Another Miami touchdown
The Hurricanes opened the second half the same as they played during the first half.
A nine-play, 75-yard drive led to another touchdown, with Mark Fletcher Jr. running it in from 1 yard out. Freshman tight end Luka Gilbert hauled in his first career reception for 20 yards prior to that.
It’s 35-3 Hurricanes with 10:39 left in the third quarter. That might be it for the UM starters tonight. We’ll see.
Of note: Bert Auburn kicked the PAT this time after Carter Davis handled all kicking duties vs Notre Dame and in the first half tonight.
Carson Beck sets UM record
Carson Beck’s 15 consecutive completions to begin the game set the UM single-game record for consecutive completions.
