Key Miami Hurricanes starter ejected early in Bethune-Cookman game for targeting
The No. 5 Miami Hurricanes were without one of their key players for virtually all of their 45-3 blowout over Bethune-Cookman on Saturday.
Senior linebacker Wesley Bissainthe was ejected three plays into the game after being called for targeting. He made helmet-to-helmet contact with Bethune-Cookman’s Alihaja Scott Jr. on the play, a third-and-7 that gained 6 yards and would have resulted in the Wildcats punting.
Instead, the Bethune-Cookman drive continued for three more plays before the Wildcats stalled at midfield and ultimately punted.
Raul “Popo” Aguirre replaced Bissainthe at linebacker alongside Mohamed Toure.
Saturday was Bissainthe’s 40th career game and 28th career start for Miami. He entered the game with 136 career tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and four sacks. He had three tackles, including a tackle for loss and forced fumble, in Miami’s season-opening win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish on Sunday.
