A Sunday morning of violence in north Broward ended with an abducted 4-year-old girl found at a Walmart; her mother, grandfather and a neighbor shot dead in a Tamarac neighborhood; and the child’s father arrested on murder charges.
Mary Catherine Gingles was 34. Her father, David Ponzer, was 64. Andrew Ferrin was 36.
Gingles’ child, Seraphine Gingles was found without physical harm less than two hours into an Amber Alert, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said, when deputies spotted father Nathan Gingles’ silver 2016 BMW X3 at 7900 W. McNab Road, a Walmart in North Lauderdale. BSO took Nathan Gingles, who is under a restraining order, into custody. He had Seraphine with him.
Nathan Gingles was arrested on a slew of charges, including first-degree murder, kidnapping, armed burglary and child abuse.
Mary Gingles, Seraphine’s custodial parent, got a domestic violence restraining order against Nathan on Feb. 9, 2024, according to online Broward county court records. Divorce proceedings began Feb. 20. Those continue, but the first restraining order was dismissed on July 10. Mary got another domestic violence restraining order on Dec. 30, an order that the court extended on Jan. 22. Another hearing was scheduled for March 19.
Around 6 a.m. Sunday, reports of a shooting brought deputies and Tamarac Fire Rescue to 5897 Plum Bay Pkwy. in Tamarac, Mary Gingles’ home, where they found Ponzer shot dead on a rear patio.
About four hours later, an Amber Alert was issued for Seraphine that mentioned 5-foot-2, 100-pound Mary also as a possible abduction victim.
But, as deputies searched for Seraphine, other BSO deputies found Mary Gingles and Andrew Ferrin inside a home across the street, both shot dead.
