Before Daniel Dovi rammed a Porsche and a golf cart and led police on a chase up Interstate 95 on June 9, investigators believed he killed two homeless men on nearby Fort Lauderdale beach.

On Monday, Dovi was charged with two counts of premeditated murder, the deaths of 59-year-old Walter Amryan and 37-year-old Adan Gonsulez.

Dovi hass been in the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s North Broward Bureau jail since June 9 on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill (two counts), aggravated battery with a deadly weapon (two counts), criminal mischief over $1,000 (two counts), one count of fleeing law enforcement and one count of battery. His bond was $97,000.

As 911 calls revealed, Amryan’s and Gonsulez’s bodies were discovered around 6:15 a.m. June 9 by couples taking a morning stroll near the beach. While detectives began investigating the deaths of Amryan and Gonsulez at 3054 Ocean Dr., Fort Lauderdale police said, Dovi was about a half mile away, in the vacant lot at 2613 Center Ave.

An arrest report said someone who had seen Dovi parked there overnight called one of the lot’s owners. After the owner pulled up in a 2015 Porsche to tell Dovi he was parked on private property, Dovi allegedly became belligerent. The 5-11, 170-pound Dovi claimed ownership of the land and pushed over the owner to buttress threats that he would “kill” the owner.

The owner drove away while calling 911. By the time he returned, someone else had driven his golf cart up to the edge of the property. According to the arrest report, Dovi backed into the golf cart hard enough to crack the frame, then backed into the Porsche on the driver’s side with similar intensity.

Dovi drove away, the report said, then returned to the Center Avenue scene while police talked with the property owners. Then the police pursuit began.

A chase that went west on Oakland Park Boulevard, then north on I-95 ended just north of Hillsboro Boulevard, with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper sending Dovi into a spin. Dovi couldn’t control his Jeep, which rolled over.
