THURSDAY AFTERNOON UPDATE: Fort Lauderdale police haven’t released the names of the two men found dead Tuesday morning because they haven’t found the next of kin for either.

The driver arrested after a police chase Tuesday from Fort Lauderdale onto Interstate 95 faces a total of eight counts on five charges.

But none of the charges facing Daniel Dovi involve the double homicide that Fort Lauderdale police are investigating as possibly related to the alleged aggravated battery incident that preceded the chase.

Dovi is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, two counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, two counts of criminal mischief over $1,000, one count of fleeing law enforcement and one count of battery.

Broward County court records say Dovi, 63, whose identity was first reported by sports radio host Andy Slater, is a resident of Sellersville, Pennsylvania. An online database says Dovi pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in 2018 and was found guilty of resisting arrest in Texas in 2002.

WSVN Channel 7 traffic helicopters caught the end of the chase, near Hillsboro Boulevard on I-95 north. The Jeep being pursued ended up rolling over. FHP pulled a gray-haired driver from the Jeep.

Fort Lauderdale police say the chase stemmed from an aggravated battery at 2613 Center Ave., which Broward property records say is a vacant lot. That’s also just a half-mile from 3054 N. Ocean Boulevard, where two men were found dead Tuesday morning.

“The incidents occurred within close proximity and timeframe to one another and, as a result, detectives are looking into the possibility that the two incidents may be related,” Fort Lauderdale police said in a Tuesday email.

Anyone with information can call Fort Lauderdale police at 954-828-5344.
