Want your condo styled by designer Julian Chang? Then buy his furnished Miami Beach pad
After seven years of living in a high rise, Julian Chang wants more space. The fashion designer plans to trade his beachfront condo for a house in Broward.
The Peruvian-born designer and his partner David Ackerman listed on Friday their 4,000-square-foot primary residence at The Bath Club in Miami Beach at 5959 Collins Ave., according to listing agents Jill Hertzberg and Jill Eber, broker-associates at The Jills Zeder Group, an affiliate of Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate.
Selling for $5.484 million, the unit has four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a half bath and two terraces. All of Chang’s hand-picked furnishings — about $300,000 in value — will be sold with the home.
The 20-story luxury condominium has a pool, outdoor spa and two clay tennis courts. Owners also have limited access to the neighboring Bath Club, a highly selective private membership club that underwent an $8 million renovation.
Chang said he and his partner are looking to buy a single-family residence with plenty of outdoor space and a pool for entertaining, either in Southwest Ranches or Davie.
“You could have a horse in your backyard. We thought about moving into a place like this. I thought I would never consider this five years ago,” Chang said. “After the pandemic, we’ve been enjoying doing things outdoors much more than before.”
Chang has a boutique store in Miami’s Upper East Side and an atelier in Little River. Over the years, Chang has dressed many celebrities, including Madonna, Gloria Estefan, Paris Hilton and Janet Jackson. He told the Miami Herald that he’s considering opening another boutique in Palm Beach County.
His unit at the Bath Club will stand out among other luxury units, Hertzberg said, since it’s move-in ready.
“All of that Julian did to get that chair, to match that wallpaper, everyone has an interior designer, but the waiting times are enormous,” she said. “The fact that they can start living in the unit the day after they close, makes it more enticing than another unit that was not furnished or not as nicely furnished.”
Sales of luxury condos jumped year-over-year this year. The number of signed contracts in Miami-Dade for condos priced over $1 million jumped 155% year-over-year in January, from 77 to 197, according to Douglas Elliman Reports.
