After $11.1M sale, SoftBank CEO wants a modern mansion to replace his Miami Beach pad
SoftBank CEO Marcelo Claure wants to replace his multimillion-dollar waterfront house with a modern mansion.
Claure submitted plans to the City of Miami Beach Design Review Board to demolish his existing residence and build a new 2-story single-family home at 5212 North Bay Road, according to an application filed in May. The board is expected to review his plans in September.
The Bolivian-American businessman made Miami his permanent home in 2018, five years after SoftBank acquired his cellphone distribution company Brightstar for $1.3 billion. He then became CEO of the SoftBank-owned company Sprint. Since then, Claure became a member of the board of directors for T-Mobile and executive chairman for WeWork. He is also a co-owner of the soccer club Inter Miami CF.
He bought his current residence last year for $11.1 million.
A new 14,126-square-foot residence would include seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms and a half bath, two staff quarters, office, gym, spa with sauna and a cold plunge, pool, dock and two rooftop lounges large enough for a dining table and lounge.
It would replace Claure’s existing 2-story, 6,390-square-foot house. Built in 1929 and expanded in 1986, the single-family home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. A pool, cabana and dock overlook Biscayne Bay in the backyard.
Other Miami Beach residents have also submitted applications to change their existing pad with a modern residence, including Thoma Bravo co-founder and managing partner Orlando Bravo and horror film producer Lawrence Kuppin.
