Things To Do

Is your house being invaded by holiday guests? Take them to these cool places in Miami

The flights are booked. You’ve stocked up on chips and salsa. Your kids are back to sharing a room.

They’re coming: The out of towners.

Because you decided to settle down where it’s roughly 45 degrees warmer than the majority of states, you likely have more house guests than the average American. That’s OK, Miami is a legit playground, and we have plenty of stuff for people of all ages to do. Please make sure they take Uber. We don’t want to drive on the same roads as these people.

Keep this list handy, or you may end up pulling out your hair and that won’t look nice for all those selfies under the tree. We feel your pain, Miami.

Stars like warm weather and expensive cocktails, too. Here’s a few sceney places to do your gawking. Wear your sunglasses inside while you do. Totally fine.

The little ones want nuggets. Your snooty second cousin, lobster. Please all members of the party at one of our many food halls, the 2019 version of food trucks. Think of all the strangers your relatives can chat with at the communal tables.

Sing, sing a song

Karaoke is a fun outing for all (well, for those over 18). Choose an old timey song everyone knows and belt it out together. Here’s a suggestion: Sister Sledge’s “We Are Family.” If y’all get a record deal, you can thank us later.

Miami has no shortage of dance floors, and nearly every club hosts some kind of salsa or merengue night. We scoped out all the hottest Latin nightclubs because that really is our job. Make sure abuela takes her heart meds first.

Jungle Island reopens after dark for Luminosa! Festival of Lights, inspired by the famed Chinese Lantern Festival. Your guests are bound to blown away by the dozens of handcrafted lanterns: butterflies, birds, alligators, flowers, even a South Beach style street. Hold onto your small ones tightly. You don’t want them roaming into the tiger cage.

We aren’t all about the beach, Brickell and Wynwood. Get in your car and take your tribe to The NightGarden, a magical light-and-special effects show. You may even see Kanye West.
