So you drank too much? Here’s where to go in Miami to eat the hangover away

Empanadas at Cafe La Trova will save you after a night of too many mojitos.
Empanadas at Cafe La Trova will save you after a night of too many mojitos.

If you are virtuous and pure and spent New Year’s Eve quietly home eating kale salad, you don’t need to read any further. Sit back and bask in the glow of your sensibility.

If however you are like most of Miami — and that’s more than a few of us, we are sorry to report — you are going to need some help today.

We all have our own hangover foods, culled from years (sometimes decades) of bad decision making. Fortunately Miami has plenty of options to get you back on your feet or at least out of your bed again.

Here are some of our favorite things to eat after imbibing a little much. And keep in mind, the key ingredients are carbs, cheese and/or something fried. This is no time to be health conscious.

Eat:

Your favorite pizza

A survey of people who over indulge almost certainly indicates that pizza is the No. 1 hangover food. In Miami, you have plenty of choices. Some of our favorites: Mister 01 Extraordinary Pizza — a pizza so good it earned its creator a government visa — or Miami’s Best Pizza, which turned 50 this year.

Croquetas from Dos Croquetas

You don’t need us to tell you a big, warm box of fried food from this Westchester spot is exactly what you need to move forward (or move at all). We recommend all of them, but the buffalo chicken croqueta may be just what you need to kick-start your recovery.

The cacio e pepe at Dal Plin

This Italian spot in the Design District’s St. Roch Market makes some of the best cacio e pepe this side of Italy. Its salty, cheesy goodness can restore mind and body. You can work out tomorrow.

Grilled cheese sandwiches from Ms. Cheezious

Did someone say cheese? This grilled cheese mecca — with locations in MiMo and on Time Out Market on South Beach — won’t let you down. Pro tip: Get the homemade onion dip today of all days.

The fried chicken sandwich at Jeremy Ford

Friedness is life at this point in time. If you’re nowhere near his spot in Time Out Market Miami, we’re sorry. Maybe you can hit the nearest Popeye’s instead — or try one of these fried chicken sandwich spots (one is vegan!).

Fries from Flanigan’s

Order yourself a Coke in one of those famous green cups and some curly fries (whether you brave a burger is up to you). Step away from the beer specials (for now). You’ll soon be good to go.

Just about anything Cuban

Carbs are required in this case, and you’ll find plenty of them at Miami’s Cuban restaurants, from the Cuban Tots at Amelia’s 1931 to the empanadas at Cafe La Trova. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with La Carreta, either. The bread alone can cure you.
