There will soon be a brand-new night train connecting Paris and Berlin
Paris and Berlin, two of Europe’s most influential capitals, offer a plethora of experiences ranging from rich cultural heritage and historical significance to indulging in delectable cuisine, vibrant nightlife, and more. Surprisingly, a night train does not connect them, despite the apparent association.
The lack of a nightly service between these two cities is somewhat puzzling given the substantial improvements and expansions in sleeper networks across the continent. However, that is about to change, according to TimeOut.
NightJet, the sleeper arm of Austrian national rail operator ÖBB, has formally announced the launch of a cutting-edge night train network connecting the bustling cities of Paris and Berlin. The exciting part is that it might start operating as early as the end of this year.
Although no formal confirmation of schedule or frequency has been made as of yet, it is expected that the route would connect with services between Brussels and Vienna. According to a Twitter conversation with train expert The Man in Seat 61, two services, one departing from Paris and the other from Brussels, will meet in Mannheim, Germany, and swap half of their carriages. After the transfer, one train will continue on to Berlin, while the other will proceed on to Vienna.
The outcome of this intricate chain of events is basically four night train services between Paris and Berlin, Paris and Vienna, Brussels and Berlin, and Brussels and Vienna, so it is not as confusing as it seems. Therefore, if you enjoy taking night trains, you now have even more reasons to look forward to your travels.
