Titletown South Florida: Spotlight on defending state champs as spring football begins

At last, football is back.

Although it’s just practice and it’s still just May, teams all across South Florida were out on the fields on Monday as the roughly four-week season of spring football began.

Titletown South Florida is back with its latest episode where Deputy Sports Editor Andre Fernandez and Sportswriter David Wilson talk about it and spotlight two of the reigning state champions in Miami Columbus and Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna.

For Chaminade, winning consecutive state crowns is nothing new as the Lions are aiming for three in a row and what would be six in the past seven seasons.

But last season left a bitter taste in their mouths after a lopsided loss at Las Vegas Bishop Gorman a week after they won that state crown. Chaminade figures to be among the nation’s best again this fall and ready to make another run at a national title.

This year, the Explorers hope to put together back-to-back titles for the first time in school history and just might have the ingredients to make it happen.

We also salute this week’s Player of the Week nominees from both Dade and Broward Counties ranging from baseball to tennis to volleyball as the spring sports season moves into its final month.
