Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (April 30)
Miami-Dade County’s top athletes continue to stand out as we move into the final month of the 2022-23 high school sports spring season.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, May 4, around 10 p.m.
You may vote as often as you like until then.
Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Albert Bell, Southwest, baseball: Bell went 3 for 5 with two three-run home runs and eight RBI overall to lead the Eagles to a 15-12 win over Miami Westminster Christian.
▪ Luis Martinez, Braddock, baseball: Martinez went a combined 7 for 14 with six RBI, a walk-off homer and two stolen bases as the Bulldogs went 3-1 this week with wins over SLAM, TERRA and Archbishop Carroll.
▪ Brennan Chow, True North, boys’ tennis: Chow finished as the overall singles runner-up and won an overall doubles state championship in Class 1A.
▪ Ameia Sorey, Palmetto, girls’ tennis: Sorey won the Class 4A overall girls’ singles state championship becoming the first to do so for her school after helping the Panthers’ girls win the team state title.
▪ Jesus Montes, Mater Lakes, boys’ volleyball: Montes had a combined 34 kills, 27 digs and six aces to lead the Bears to wins over TERRA and Chaminade and a 22-2 record.
