Titletown South Florida: Spring football, plus a couple of major baseball comeback stories
Titletown South Florida returns to talk about some of the most remarkable turnaround stories of this baseball season plus a look ahead to the start of spring football in two weeks.
Miami Herald Deputy Sports Editor Andre Fernandez and Sportswriter Jordan McPherson break down the Varela baseball team’s breakout season heading into this week’s GMAC tournament as well as the dramatic turnaround of Miami Sunset’s squad after winning only one game over the past two seasons.
The guys also talk about Miami Springs’ surge at seemingly the right time as it hopes to make only its second ever appearance at the state final four.
And can anyone slow down national powerhouse Stoneman Douglas and their amazing ace Christian Rodriguez, who is averaging two strikeouts per inning?
Fernandez and McPherson then point out some of the top storylines to look at as spring football workouts begin May 1 across Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Which teams have overhauled their rosters for the better and who are some of the more interesting programs to keep an eye on? Plus, we look at some of the top kids honored recently for their academic achievements.
We also salute this week’s Player of the Week nominees from both Dade and Broward Counties ranging from baseball and softball to tennis and lacrosse as the spring sports season heats up.
