Poll: Which Dade high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (April 16)

Miami-Dade County’s top athletes continue to stand out as we begin crowning state champions for the 2022-23 high school sports spring season.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Miami-Dade County high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, April 20, around 10 p.m.

You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Adrian Santana, Doral Academy, baseball: Santana went 4 for 4 with two home runs to lead the Firebirds to a 9-2 win over Archbishop McCarthy.

Kathleen Serig, Gulliver, girls’ water polo: Serig scored seven goals to lead the Raiders to a 22-8 win over St. Thomas Aquinas in a state semifinal match.

Shakynah Tresvant, Northwestern, girls’ track and field: Tresvant won the triple jump with a mark of 11.50 meters and the 400 hurdles with a time of 1:02.79 while helping the Bulls win their fourth consecutive GMAC title and 11th in the past 12 years.

Alejandro Urdaneta, Ransom Everglades, boys’ tennis: Urdaneta won a tough three-set match over True North’s Brennan Chow to secure the No. 1 singles District 16-1A championship.

Wade Parker, Westminster Christian, boys’ lacrosse: Parker recorded 13 saves including a game-sealing save in an 8-7 win over Gulliver to secure the District 16-1A championship.
