IMG Academy standout and Miami native Dontae Lucas signs. Here’s where he’s going

Dontae Lucas sat at a makeshift podium inside the Bru’s Room in Miami with his family by his side.

The IMG Academy offensive lineman and Miami native knew what he wanted to say. The words were just tough to come by.

Ultimately, finally, Lucas let the world know what seemed like an inevitability: He was signing with Florida State.

“It wasn’t really a football decision,” said Lucas, who chose FSU over Miami and Florida. “It was really education-wise, I felt I would be better at Florida State. I just feel like I’d be set better. Out of all my officials, Florida State felt like home.”

Lucas entered Wednesday as the No. 6 overall offensive guard in the country and the No. 16 player in the state of Florida regardless of position. The four-star prospect had offers from 20 programs.

His signing also coincided with FSU coach Willie Taggart’s signing day press conference. With Lucas officially on board, Taggart spoke publicly about his new offensive lineman.

“He’s a War Daddy,” Taggard said, according to 247Sports’ Brendan Sonnone. “He’s what I call a people mover.”

Lucas is just fine with that. He said he plans to find a way to make an instant impact for the Seminoles in 2019.

“I’m just ready to go. I’m ready to play ball,” Lucas said. “Get the feeling, help Taggart get that program back to where it was. I’m ready to go.
