Last-second safety secures Hialeah Gardens’ win
When Krop stopped Hialeah Gardens on the 3-yard line on fourth down with 20 seconds left, it appeared the Lightning had secured a 7-6 win.
But, needing only to run a couple of quarterback sneaks into the line, Krop (1-6, 0-3) instead ran an off tackle play and Gardens defenders, led by Peter Carnero, surged through and tackled Krop running back Robert Henderson a yard deep in the end zone for a stunning game-winning safety and an 8-7 victory for Hialeah Gardens in a District 13-8A contest at Hialeah Gardens High School.
The Gladiators, winless from 2011 to 2013, are now 3-4 and 1-2 in the district.
