Belen allows halftime lead to slip away in loss to Key West

Belen (4-2), which led 7-0 at halftime, allowed two long runs and lost, 20-7, to visiting Key West (5-1) in a non-district game.

Belen’s only score came after a high snap sailed over the head of the Key West punter. Belen recovered at the Key West 3, and, after a procedure penalty, Robert Pulles scored on an 8-yard run.

Key West took advantage of the first of Jose Llanes’ two third-quarter fumbles, scoring on a 40-yard run by Andrew Freeman.

Belen tried to take a lead, but Jake Ramirez’s 42-yard field-goal attempt was blocked by Lawrence Marius. Key West running back Mekhi Sargent then scored the game-winning TD with a 70-yard run with 7:18 left.
