Coconut Creek falls to Boynton Beach in shootout

Boynton Beach quarterback Lamar Jackson scored on a diving 6-yard touchdown run with six seconds to play to win a 63-58 District 15-6A shootout that ended Coconut Creek’s playoff hopes.

After lacking a challenge from any opponent this season, Jackson delivered passing for 346 yards and two touchdowns, and rushing for 146 yards and five touchdowns for Boynton Beach (9-0, 4-0). Despite fumbling multiple times, Jackson was masterful enough to offset the magnificent performances of some Coconut Creek stars.

Coconut Creek (4-4, 2-2) quarterback Jhakari Harrison put on a masterful second-half performance, finishing with 366 yards passing, and Malek Young put on a kick return clinic with three touchdowns. Coconut Creek rallied from 14 down in the second half to take a 58-51 lead when Harrison found Binjimen Victor for a 1-yard touchdown pass with 2:27 to play.

Facing 3rd and 12 from the 49, Jackson found Mason wide open for a 47-yard completion putting Boynton at the Creek 4-yard line with under 30 seconds to play. Jackson scored the winning touchdown, but it appeared he may have fumbled, and both sidelines lost it.

Coconut Creek coach Kareem Reid was ejected and the Cougars were hit with three unsportsmanlike penalties erasing the chance of Young returning a fourth kick for a touchdown.
