Belen Jesuit blitzes past Sunset, in thick of District race
With full control of District 15-8A, the Belen Jesuit Wolverines could ill afford to look past Sunset on Friday afternoon and did not.
Host Belen (6-2, 4-0) used a four-touchdown blitz in the first half to build a 27-0 lead, and coasted to a 27-6 victory. Belen could have clinched a playoff berth if Ferguson defeated Southwest, but the Wolverines will need to defeat Ferguson next week to secure the district title. A Ferguson win would likely force a three-way district tiebreaker Nov.3.
Running back Joseph Garcia scored three touchdowns from 3, 8 and 4 yards out to stake his team to a 21-0 lead before quarterback Daniel Hernandez hit Joseph Cirera for a 71-yard touchdown 40 seconds before halftime.
