Poll: Which Broward high school athlete should be the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week? (Feb. 18)
Broward County’s top athletes are excelling on the road to state in winter sports and as they begin similar journeys in springs sports.
This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in Broward County high school sports.
Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, Feb. 22, around 10 p.m.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:
▪ Genesis Hernandez, St. Thomas Aquinas, girls’ soccer: Hernandez scored a combined four goals to lead the Raiders to wins over South Plantation and Cooper City and a berth in the Region 4-6A final.
▪ Kayla Greyvensteyn, Cardinal Gibbons, girls’ basketball: Greyvensteyn totaled 31 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals and two blocks to lead the Chiefs to a 76-53 victory over Pine Crest in the Region 4-4A quarterfinals.
▪ Shon Abaev, Calvary Christian, boys’ basketball: Abaev scored 24 points in a victory over North Broward Prep in a Region 4-4A quarterfinal.
▪ Josh Harris, Pines Charter, boys’ basketball: Harris recorded 23 points and nine rebounds to lead the Jaguars to a 65-53 win over Boyd Anderson in the Region 4-5A quarterfinals.
▪ Daniela Duran, Cypress Bay, girls’ soccer: Duran scored both goals in a victory over Doral Academy in a Region 4-7A semifinal.
▪ Aleesa Samuel, Somerset Academy, girls’ track and field: Samuel won the 100 meter dash and the 100 meter hurdles at the Louie Bing Invitational.
