The results are in. Archbishop McCarthy softball standout voted Miami Herald player of the week

Archbishop McCarthy softball’s Chantal Guilou is the Miami Herald’s Player of the Week, as voted on by readers in our weekly poll.

Guilou, a sophomore, gave up only two hits and one walk while striking out 12 in a 7-0 victory over Westminster Academy last week.

On the season, Guilou has gone 8-2 with a 1.33 ERA and 73 strikeouts against just 10 walks over 58 innings. She is also hitting .343 with three doubles, a triple, 12 RBI and 11 runs scored for an Archbishop McCarthy team that is 9-5, including a pair of wins over Plantation American Heritage and Westminster Academy.

Nearly 26,000 votes were cast in this week’s poll. Southridge girls’ track and field’s Cynteria James, Mater Lakes baseball’s Brandyn Gonzalez, Columbus baseball’s Freddy Zapata and St. Thomas Aquinas boys’ water polo’s Nicholas Santarsiero were the other contenders for this week.

The Miami Herald will conduct this poll weekly, with polls opening Monday morning and closing at 10 p.m. Thursday.
