As the 2021-22 high school spring sports begin their respective postseasons, more notable performances by South Florida’s best athletes highlighted this past week.

This week, we continue a weekly feature where we ask you to vote for the best performer of the week in South Florida high school sports.

Below is a look at the five candidates from last week’s action. Take our poll below to cast your vote. The poll will be open until Thursday, April 14, around 10 p.m. You may vote as often as you like until then.

Here are the candidates from last week’s events:

Freddy Zapata, Columbus, baseball: Zapata pitched a complete game and allowed no earned runs while striking out seven and allowing two hits in a 10-2 win over Goleman.

Brandyn Gonzalez, Mater Lakes, baseball: Gonzalez went 3 for 4 and hit three home runs to help the Bears beat Doral Academy 9-4.

Chantal Guillou, Archbishop McCarthy, softball: Guillou gave up only two hits and one walk while striking out 12 in a 7-0 victory over Westminster Academy.

Cynteria James, Southridge, girls’ track and field: James broke two meet records at the GMAC championships after running a time of 11.60 seconds in the 100 meters and a time of 23.48 seconds in the 200 meters.

Nicholas Santarsiero, St. Thomas Aquinas, boys’ water polo: Santarsiero scored six goals to lead the Raiders to a 19-11 win over Cypress Bay in the regional semifinal round.
