Legendary Florida wrestling manager Snakemaster Abudadein gave WWE SummerSlam three of five snakes in his snake rankings.
Fans, gamers, panelists, photographers, podcasters, promoters, TV talent, writers also react to WWE SummerSlam, the company’s second biggest pay-per-view of the year, on Sunday, Aug. 20 from Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Longtime wrestling fan Jeff Gardner said: “Match of the Night was Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose vs. Sheamus and Cesaro-[Raw] Tag Team Championship match. The match had great storytelling, with the heel champions trying to keep the face challengers from winning, by any means necessary. The storytelling between the members of the match was great. The wrestling itself was good and made sense.
“Sheamus and Cesaro did great splitting the ring and trying to keep their opponents from tagging in. They got good heel reactions and the spot with the beach ball was a good touch. Ambrose and Rollins showed their skill in the ring together and definitely got a great reaction from the fans. The ending of the match was an exciting high spot that the crowd really loved.”

He added: “With good matches like the tag team match, the match between Balor and Wyatt and the Fatal Fourway, the PPV was fairly good. However matches such as the 9-second match between Orton and Rusev, and the predictable match between Cena and Corbin definitely brought the rating of the show down.”
Wrestling writer and fan Scott Fishman of Channel Guide and the Miami Herald said: “My Match of the Night was the main event for the WWE Universal Championship. The atmosphere was electric in the Barclays Center for Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe and Brock Lesnar. From the opening bell, the four took the raucous New Brooklyn crowd and beyond on a fun and wild ride. The utter carnage and destruction laid down by Strowman was incredible with the crowd eating it up. A thrown announcer chair, broken tables and even a security barrier were among the casualties.
“The ‘Monster Among Men’ truly stepped up against the established names. I thought the stretcher job on Lesnar was outstanding in telling the story that Strowman did damage. The Beast Incarnate also sold the war he had been in well, failing to get up after the battle he had been through. The polarizing Reigns and Joe also delivered with their own physical styles. However, there is definitely money in Strowman versus Lesnar. If SummerSlam was any indication, the crowd will be electric for it.”
Scott’s other highlights:
“Seeing Natalya win the SmackDown women’s championship. The veteran performer has been through it all in WWE and always asks for more. She takes time to work young talent in helping them succeed. Whether it’s social media or meeting fans in the flesh, Nattie is one of the most giving of her time. It has been so long since she last help the title and to have it happen at SummerSlam made it especially meaningful. After all, her father Jim Neidhart and uncle Bret had their own milestone moments at the same event decades prior. Nice watching hard work pay off.”
“Cesaro deflating the beach ball was great because it was organic and surely improvised. He ended Beach Ball Slam before it ever got started.”
“Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose winning the tag team championship. The former Shield brothers came together and are sure to bring some excitement to the tag division. Will Reigns make it a full-on reunion tour?”
“The entrances of Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn “The Demon” Balor were particularly awesome to see live.I think Nakamura got the violin over, brother”
“Elias Samson stole the show with his performance and encore musical stylings. With every passing week, it’s hard not to walk with “The Drifter.’”
“The energy from the crowd John Cena elicits is fun to experience.”
“My second favorite match happened on the preshow, which was New Day and the Usos. Their natural chemistry shined through with the fans clearly invested in every near fall. This was tag team wrestling done right and set the evening off on the right foot.”
“I will always mark out for a Shawn Michaels entrance, even if it’s only to sell some KFC chicken. There is nobody like the HBK.”
Bryan Burga and Jeff Martin of The Jersey Wrecking Crew of The High Spot Podcast agreed that the Match of the Night was the Fatal Fourway for the WWE Universal Championship.
“Brock Lesnar showed why he;s still WWE’s biggest attraction and worth all of the $5 million plus he makes. If Braun Stroman isn’t over enough as it is, tonight Braun Stroman sky rocketed to the clear No.2 attraction in the company and has been on of the few best booked stars in WWE today.
“Roman Reigns status remains status quo as he took the surprising pin, but he can afford it as he’s still the company’s face now that John Cena time winds down as an in ring competitor. As for Samoa Joe, he still has a claim that he didn’t lose tonight at SummerSlam. WWE proved tonight that the Raw brand is the land of the giants until further notice.”
WWE fan Shaura Thomas, who also enjoys NXT and attends NXT shows in Florida, said: “What a Pay-Per-View. The Match of the Night for me was The Usos vs. The New Day [for the SmackDown tag team titles]. There was never a dull moment in the match. They pulled out all of the stops to keep the crowd entertained. I really like where The Usos are going within the tag team division, and they are finally getting the recognition that they deserve. When it comes to The Usos, I have been ‘down since day one-ish.’
“Separate from the matches were the entrances. I have been waiting for a year to see Finn Balor’s demon entrance once again. It was definitely worth the wait, and I am so happy that he came out victorious. Another entrance that always impresses is for Shinsuke Nakamura. The new version of his theme, accompanied by Lee England Jr., gives so much life when experiencing his entrance. I have always stated that Nakamura is the Michael Jackson of wrestling. Finn and Shinsuke's entrance were the top entrances of the night because the expectation is always high, and they definitely delivered.
“I also thought that Natalya vs. Naomi was an amazing match. Finally Nattie is getting the her opportunity once again. Her interaction with referee Jason Ayers was amazing as she is known as the Black Hart.”
WSVN Ch. 7 talent Chris Van Vliet, who’s interviewed many actors and wrestlers and attended many wrestling shows, said: “The Match of the Night was the main event [Fatal Fourway]. Wow, it had it all. After all the build up, it paid off. All four competitors looked strong, especially Braun Strowman, but Brock coming back after being powerslammed through two announce tables and then stretchered off was the icing on the cake.”
Wrestling and MMA interviewer and fan Rodolfo Roman of The Roman Show said: “Jinder vs. Nakamura. Hearing the WWE Universe sing Nakamura’s song throughout the match just shows how much he is appreciated, and he doesn’t even have to cut a promo to get over. I also enjoyed this match because it had the international feel. It featured wrestlers that weren't from North or South America nor Europe. It’s different. I also like we were able to hear commentators from both Japan and India, giving it that extra coolness.”
Longtime wrestling writer and fan Mike Mooneyham said his Match of the Night was the Fatal Fourway main event.
“It rescued an otherwise lackluster Summer Slam. Makes a Lesnar-Strowman showdown even more intriguing.”

WWE fan Karen Peterson said her Match of the Night was Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins defeating WWE Raw tag team champs Sheamus and Cesaro for the Raw tag team titles.
“The Raw Tag Team title match opened a new chapter for Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose. After Seth’s betrayal of the SHIELD several years ago, his road to redemption was a tumultuous one. Defeating Sheamus and Cesaro solidified what many fans wished for years -- not only a SHIELD Reunion but a focused SHIELD taking control of the tag team division once more.”
Platinum Pro Promoter, indie wrestler and fan J-Dawg Brooks said: “Match of the Night hands down was the Fatal Fourway Main Event. Hard hitting. No major botches. Crowd response from beginning to end. And a great finish. That’s my pick.”
Wrestling panelist, photographer, writer, fan and video gamer Steve Mesa said: “Match of the Night goes to the Fatal Fourway [main event] title match. It was as close to a live action monster mash that WWE will ever do. Each competitor had their moment to shine, especially Strowman. It was a fast-paced and action packed bout. This match certainly sets up a future title match between Lesnar and Strowman.”
Wrestling fan and former wrestling writer John Patton said: “The main event was a spectacle. Strowman has been pushed strongly, but Brock really made him tonight. The match was a lot of fun.”
WWE fan Mia Simmons, who also enjoys NXT and attends NXT shows in Florida, said: “My Match of the Night of Summer Slam is Usos vs. The New Day [for the SmackDown tag team titles]. That was a great tag match. You didn’t know who was going to win, and it kept you on the edge of your seat. Entrance of the night was Finn Bàlor. Nice seeing The Demon entrance back. I was happy for Nattie finally becoming champion again after six years.”
Longtime wrestling fan Rick Reyes said: “By far, the Fatal Fourway was the Match of the Night. This is how wrestling is supposed to be. All four men looked strong. You had all three announce tables broken. Brock taken out on a stretcher only to return. Joe with a Coquina Clutch. Roman still getting the most boos. Incredible match. WWE still has work to do as NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III was an overall stronger show, but a step in the right direction for WWE.”
Florida Supercon panelist, lucha libre historian, wrestling fan Guy Hutchinson said: “I thought it was a very good show. Amazing main event, but my favorite match was Cesaro and Sheamus versus Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins. I thought there was some great ring work and some real intensity. I love the beachball moment.”
Legendary Florida wrestling referee Bruce Owens said: “Complimentary to Miss Banks. That match [Alexa Bliss vs. Sasha Banks] was everything it should and was built up to be. Work rate was strong. It shows that the girls work rate can at times, top the men...For a ladies match, this is an all-time winner. The fans clearly believed in Sasha.”
He added: “What a main event. Four guys beating each other’s ass for 25 minutes. Wow. Wrestling like it used to be. Definitely over-the-top main event. Finally a great main event.”
Wrestling fan and indie show assistant Salvador Santoyo said: “[Match of the Night] Gonna go with Shinsuke Nakamura vs. [WWE Champ] Jinder Mahal. Told a great story, even though Shinsuke lost, but that story is far from over.”
Wrestling fan Dylan Kaplan, who attends and enjoys NXT shows in Florida, said: “The main event of Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman vs. Samoa Joe was the Match of the Night.
“It was Match of the Might because you had heavyweights flying around like crusierweights doing moves you didn’t think they could do. I didn’t think they could fly around like that. It was a match I will watch over and over again.”
My favorites: “Cesaro’s beachball moment. The musical stylings of Elias Samson. Nakamura’s entrance with live musical accompaniment and fan sing-along. Bray Wyatt and The Demon Finn Balor entrances...and of course...HBK as KFC Colonel Sanders.”
