Hurricanes land second blue-chip commit in as many days to beef up 2026 class
For the second consecutive day, the Miami Hurricanes received a major win on the recruiting trail as they round out their Class of 2026.
On Sunday, it was four-star defensive back JJ Dunnigan announcing his commitment to UM.
On Monday, it was another blue-chip defender in edge rusher DeAnthony Lafayette.
Lafayette, out of Orlando Lake Nona High, is a four-star prospect ranked as the No. 36 edge rusher nationally, No. 54 prospect in the state of Florida regardless of position and No. 391 recruit nationally regardless of position according to the 247Sports composite ranking.
He decommitted from LSU on Sunday and one day later chose to announce his pledge to Miami.
Lafayette on the season has 58 tackles, 24 tackles for loss and 14-and-a-half sacks for Lake Nona, which begins its run in the FHSAA Class 7A state series with a regional quarterfinal game against St. Cloud on Friday.
He is the 27th player in Miami’s 2026 recruiting class, which as of Monday night ranks 10th nationally about a month ahead of the early signing period.
