Miami Hurricanes land commitment from another blue chip prospect for Class of 2026
The Miami Hurricanes are keeping up their momentum on the recruiting front.
The Hurricanes on Sunday landed another blue-chip recruit for their Class of 2026, receiving an oral commitment from four-star cornerback JJ Dunnigan.
“All glory to God for blessing me with the strength and guidance to reach this point,” Dunnigan wrote on his personal X account. “Thank you to my family for sticking by my side, and thank you to the coaches that believed in me. With that being said, I’m committed to the University of Miami.
Listed as a 6-2, 185-pound cornerback out of Manhattan, Kansas, Dunnigan is rated as the No. 18 cornerback and the No. 152 prospect overall in the class regardless of position in the Class of 2026. According to MaxPreps, Dunnigan has 29 tackles, four tackles for loss, one sack and a blocked field goal for Manhattan High this season.
247Sports’ scouting report of Dunnigan describes him as an “imposing defensive back with impressive play speed and a projectable frame that fits the mold of a modern boundary safety, but might also be worth a look at cornerback.”
It adds that he is “quick to read and diagnose as he moves on his toes and bolts forward with conviction. Can get caught over-running lanes, but seeks contact and will play through obstacles to strike ball carriers.”
The scouting report also speaks of his defensive versatility and that he can be viewed as a “turbo-charged defensive chess piece that can fit into a variety of different schemes and roles depending on what’s needed and how the body fills out.”
Dunnigan is the 26th commitment in Miami’s Class of 2026 and the sixth defensive back in that group joining four-star cornerback Camdin Portis, four-star cornerback Jaelen Waters, four-star safety Cortez Redding, four-star cornerback Brody Jennings and four-star cornerback Jontavius Wyman.
