The No. 5 Miami Hurricanes’ home game against the No. 18 USF Bulls on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium has been delayed in the second quarter due to lightning in the area.

The delay started at 5:25 p.m., with 13:45 left in the second quarter and Miami up 14-3 on USF. The game restarted at 7:06 p.m., making the delay one hour and 41 minutes.

Players returned to the field at 6:52 p.m. and were given 15 minutes to warm up before play resumed.

The NCAA requires a minimum of a 30-minute delay if there’s lightning within an eight-mile radius of the stadium.

If another lightning strike hits at any point during the delay, the clock restarts.

There was only light rain at the time of the delay, but the rain started getting heavier at about 6 p.m., with the forecast showing heavy rain throughout Miami Gardens through the 7 p.m. hour.

“Inclement weather including lightning has been detected within 8 miles of the Stadium,” the scoreboards throughout Hard Rock read at the start of the delay. “Please seek shelter within the concourses. If you wish to exit the stadium for additional shelter, re-entry will be allowed via ticket stub or mobile ticket.”
