Updates on three injured Miami Hurricanes ahead of ranked matchup vs USF Bulls
It appears that the Miami Hurricanes will get some, but not all, of their reinforcements back this weekend.
Two key sophomores in running back Jordan Lyle and defensive lineman Armondo Blount were full participants in warmups for the fifth-ranked Hurricanes ahead of their matchup against the No. 18 USF Bulls on Saturday at Hard Rock Stadium.
A third in wide receiver Joshisa “JoJo” Trader was not spotted on the field pregame.
None of the three played last weekend in Miami’s 45-3 rout of the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. Lyle and Trader were both also limited in the Hurricanes’ season-opening win over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, with Lyle playing just five snaps and Trader nine in that game. Blount played 26 snaps as part of Miami’s defensive line rotation against Notre Dame.
Lyle will be part of Miami’s three-heading attack at running back along with junior Mark Fletcher Jr. and redshirt sophomore CharMar “Marty” Brown. Fletcher and Brown combined for 256 yards and four touchdowns on 48 carries over the first two weeks of the season.
Blount, meanwhile, served as one of the Hurricanes’ primary backups on the defensive line against Notre Dame, rotating both along the edge and inside depending on the game situation. He adds to the group backing up starting edge rushers Rueben Bain and Akheem Mesidor that also includes Marquise Lightfoot, Malik Bryant and Booker Pickett. On the interior, he serves as a fifth option beyond David Blay Jr., Ahmad Moten Sr., Justin Scott and Donta Simpson Jr.
Trader would have added depth to the Hurricanes’ receiver room that has already seen multiple players contribute through the first two weeks. True freshman Malachi Toney and sixth-year senior CJ Daniels have been Carson Beck’s primary targets, combining for 22 catches, 281 yards and four receiving touchdowns through the first two games. But 14 total players hauled in at least one reception in the opening first two games.
