University of Miami linebacker Adarius Hayes was arrested Friday in connection with a crash that authorities said left two children and a woman dead back in May.

Hayes, a UM sophomore, turned himself into the Largo Police Department on Friday after an arrest warrant was issued, the Largo Police Department said in a news release, and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail. He has been charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving with serious bodily injury. He is being held on a $350,000 bond.

UM said in a statement that Hayes has been “indefinitely suspended from all athletic-related activities per athletic department policy” and will have no further comment.

Police said the crash occurred May 10 around 1:43 p.m. at the intersection of Orange View Drive and Ridge Road in Largo. They said Hayes was driving a Dodge Durango as fast as nearly 79 mph and was “maneuvering aggressively” through traffic shortly before colliding with a 2017 Kia Soul that resulted in three deaths — Gail Price, 78, Jabari Elijah Solomon, 10, and Charlie Herbert Solomon Riveria, 4 — and a fourth person sustaining serious injuries.

The Kia, police said, was “lawfully executing a left-hand turn” when Hayes’ vehicle “made a rapid and dangerous maneuver” and crashed into the car.

The speed limit at the intersection is 40 mph, according to the department.

“Hayes’ egregious speed, aggressive and reckless lane changes, and complete disregard for surrounding traffic conditions demonstrated a willful and deliberate disregard for the safety of others, constituting reckless driving. These actions directly led to the tragic deaths of the three victims,” police wrote in a news release.
