The Miami Hurricanes kick off the 2025 season on Aug. 31 with a marquee matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Hard Rock Stadium (7:30 p.m., ABC).

With the calendar officially flipped to August, the Miami Herald is counting down 30 of the most important players on the Hurricanes’ roster, one per day leading up to the season opener, to provide a closer look at the team heading into coach Mario Cristobal’s fourth season.

Today: The No. 12 player on our list, Joshisa Trader.

What to know

Position: Wide receiver

Hometown: Hollywood

Year: Sophomore

How he got to Miami: 2024 recruiting class

Key stats: 6 catches, 91 yards, 1 TD in seven games in 2024

In summary: Joshisa “JoJo” Trader came to Miami a year ago as a four-star recruit and consensus top-100 prospect in the Class of 2024 out of powerhouse Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna but only saw limited action because of the Hurricanes’ depth in front of him and because he was dealing with injuries at the start of the campaign. Now UM is looking to replace its top five pass catchers — receivers Xavier Restrepo, Jacolby George, Isaiah Horton and Sam Brown plus tight end Elijah Arroyo — and Trader will be given every chance to prove he can be part of Miami’s next wave of receivers. He showed glimpses of his high-end talent in the Pop-Tarts Bowl when he hauled in three catches for 61 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown, and should be part of Miami’s rotation of receivers on the outside with transfers Keelan Marion and CJ Daniels as well as true freshman Josh Moore.

What they’re saying

“You have to work on everything. You’re never too good for anything. I work on my hands, footwork, blocking drills, everything. I’m learning all the plays from inside out.” — Trader on what he worked on after his freshman year

“He showed glimpses of being a player who could be really elite right now. Consistency is something we all have to work on. He’s really steady in what he does. He’s very capable.” - offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson on Trader
