The Miami Hurricanes kick off the 2025 season on Aug. 31 with a marquee matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Hard Rock Stadium (7:30 p.m., ABC).

With the calendar officially flipped to August, the Miami Herald is counting down 30 of the most important players on the Hurricanes’ roster, one per day leading up to the season opener, to provide a closer look at the team heading into coach Mario Cristobal’s fourth season.

Today: The No. 24 player on our list, Jordan Lyle.

What to know

Position: Running back

Hometown: Fort Lauderdale

Year: Sophomore

How he got to Miami: 2024 recruiting class

Key stats: 54 carries, 400 rushing yards, four touchdowns in 2024

In summary: Jordan Lyle is arguably the most explosive running back on the Hurricanes’ roster, and he showed it big time as a freshman. Of his 54 carries, nine went for at least 10 yards. His 7.41 yards per carry ranked seventh nationally among running backs with at least 50 carries. The big question becomes whether Lyle can continue with that explosiveness as his role likely increases and he sees more touches on a weekly basis. Remember he only had double-digit carries in one game as a freshman. Miami will once again use multiple running backs this season, with Mark Fletcher Jr. expected to get the bulk of the carries followed by Lyle and North Dakota State transfer CharMar Brown.

What they’re saying

“I would say just learning how to develop. Basically, that just helped me understand the game because the speed was going so much faster when I got here. So that was just the only adjustment I had to learn from coming from high school to football college.” - Jordan Lyle on what he learned the most during his freshman season.

“He is a year older now. I don’t know how much bigger he will get, but our strength and conditioning coaches do a great job of making sure that as they put on size, they don’t lose their speed and quickness and everything else. I like where Jordan is at, but we will see where he is at over the next few months.” - Running backs coach Matt Merritt
