Hurricanes make another recruiting splash, flipping four-star cornerback from Georgia
The Miami Hurricanes’ recruiting momentum this spring continues.
The Hurricanes on Saturday received a verbal commitment from four-star cornerback Jontavius Wyman, flipping the Jonesboro, Georgia, native from the Georgia Bulldogs. It’s the third pledge Miami has received over the past eight days after also getting commitments from in-state offensive linemen Joel Ervin (Fort Myers) on March 29 and JJ Sparks (Jacksonville Bolles School) on Wednesday.
Wyman, tabbed as the No. 17 cornerback and No. 166 player nationally regardless of position by the 247Sports composite ranking, had been committed to Georgia since July 27.
“305, I’m home,” Wyman wrote in a post on his personal X account announcing his decision. “Committed to the University of Miami.”
247Sports’ scouting report on Wyman describes him as a “versatile secondary defender ... with a plus-wingspan and adequate arm length.”
“Owns experience playing field and boundary corner along with occasional reps at safety, at this stage of the evaluation process likely profiles to cornerback but could reasonably find a long-term home at all five spots in the defensive backfield,” the scouting report continues. “Dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands in all three phases.”
Wyman is the first cornerback commit in the Hurricanes’ Class of 2026
Miami now has nine players committed to its 2026 recruiting class.
The rest of the class as of Saturday: Carol City four-star linebacker Jordan Campbell, Charlotte Myers Park four-star cornerback Camdin Portis, Seffner Armwood four-star cornerback Jaelen Waters, West Boca Raton four-star running back Javian Mallory, Orlando Jones four-star quarterback Dereon Coleman and Mineral City (Ohio) Tuscarawas Valley four-star offensive lineman Ben Congdon.
