How cold will it get? Forecasters say it could drop into the 40s in some areas of Miami
The temperatures are dropping overnight, and forecasters expect the low-50s and upper-40s in some areas of South Florida Tuesday morning.
“A chilly start,” NBC 6 meteorologist Ryan Phillips said on Twitter.
And Tuesday’s high may not even reach 70, before snapping back down to the 50s, according to the National Weather Service.
While no rain is expected the next couple of days, pack your umbrella for later this week.
Some parts of Florida will see rain from Thursday through the weekend. But nothing like what the state saw last weekend.
Floridians faced a flood watch and tornado warning on Sunday in Broward, Collier, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach counties. The counties experienced heavy rain showers, but remained relatively unscathed compared to Lee County in southwest Florida, which lost over 28 homes due to a tornado that touched down around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.
Sunshine warmed South Florida on Monday, although low temperatures hit the mid-50s.
Nonetheless, that was much better than in the Northeast. Several states, including New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania, dealt with a foot or more of snow on the holiday, according to The Associated Press. Thousands suffered power outages, canceled flights and shutdowns for COVID-19 testing facilities.
Tuesday and Wednesday will bring — in the words of Jimmy Cliff — bright sunshiny days to Bradenton, Broward County, Key West and Miami-Dade County, according to the National Weather Service.
Thursday is a mixed bag. Bradenton and Broward should luck out with partly cloudy days with highs in the mid-70s and lows around the 50s and 60s. Clouds are anticipated to dot the sky in Key West and Miami-Dade, bringing a slight chance of showers.
It’s an equal playing field for the remainder of the week. All counties can expect a chance of showers for Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service’s forecast.
