Loving dog struggling to stand out in 3 months at shelter. ‘No one seems to see him’
A loving dog has spent three months at a Florida shelter — and he’s “struggling to be seen.”
“He spends every day right up against his kennel door, trying to catch someone’s attention,” Orange County Animal Services wrote Dec. 14 in a Facebook post. “And every day, people walk right by his kennel without a second glance.”
Zeus is up for adoption after he was surrendered in September. He had a longtime owner, who “came across some financial hard times” and lost his home. The two spent months living out of the owner’s car before the man decided to give up Zeus.
“Surrendering an animal can be incredibly hard, especially when it’s a dog that’s lived in the same home their whole life,” the Orlando-based shelter wrote. “But we know that sometimes, a pet owner has exhausted every resource, and the shelter is the final resort. And then, to watch them turn over their beloved animal, for us, it’s heartbreaking.”
Zeus is described as a 9-year-old pup who still has a “zest for activity.” He is one of the shelter’s longest residents and was given a special diet to help him gain weight, according to the Facebook post and an online adoption profile.
“Zeus is still here, struggling to be seen,” animal services wrote. “The crazy thing is, Zeus is an absolutely amazing dog. Good with other dogs, calm, intelligent, strong, and very affectionate. He checks all the boxes, and yet, no one seems to see him.”
As of Dec. 20, the shelter’s website listed Zeus among the animals in need of homes. Details about its adoption process can be found at orangecountyanimalservicesfl.net.
“This big boy has experienced life at its worst but somehow is still the sweetest fun loving dog,” a person who planned an adventure for Zeus wrote in his online adoption profile.
Orange County Animal Services didn’t share additional information with McClatchy News on Dec. 17 and 19.
