A “spunky” dog is “a bit of a diva” — and she needs a home.

The energetic Florida rescue pup has been waiting more than one year to snuggle with a new owner.

“Jersey can be a headstrong girl and tends to be a bit ‘bossy’ with other dogs thus her diva status,” Michelle Cramer, president of the Northwest Florida Great Dane Rescue, told McClatchy News in a Dec. 17 email. “However with her people she is the biggest cuddle bug and is very submissive. She loves to lay across your lap on the couch and cuddle with you.”

Jersey is ready for a second chance after she landed at the rescue in June 2023. She had been transferred from a shelter, where she was never claimed.

In the months that followed, Jersey became known as a roughly 6-year-old pup who “likes to be in charge.” In her next home, she “would love to have the attention all to herself” but could also live with laid-back dogs, the rescue wrote in a social media post and an online adoption profile.

“How has this girl been in rescue for a year already? Don’t let her graying muzzle fool you,” the animal organization wrote on Facebook. “Jersey is sassy but still full of spunky energy and LOTS of love to give!”

When she’s not bossing around other dogs, Jersey likes to bask in the sun, warning of “stranger danger” from wildlife. She also shows off her appetite at her foster home near Pensacola, on the Florida Panhandle.

“Jersey LOVES to eat,” rescuers wrote. “She came in pretty underweight but it took no time for her to start feeling better. This girl will still lick her bowl clean every time. She has never met a treat that she didn’t like!”

As of Dec. 18, the rescue’s website listed Jersey among the animals still available for adoption. Details about the organization’s adoption process can be found at nwflgdr.com.
