Stray pup was adopted — then abandoned. Now, this ‘drooly’ dog needs another new home
An adopted dog was abandoned — and now he needs a new home.
“Yukon has been in and out of the shelter now for almost a year,” Orange County Animal Services in Florida wrote Dec. 10 in a Facebook post. “Let’s get him seen. Let’s get him home.”
The “sweet” 8-year-old pup is waiting for a new owner after he arrived at animal services in February. But his first stint at the shelter was years before.
“We met Yukon back in 2017, when he was just a pup,” the Orlando-based shelter wrote. “He came in as a shy and skinny stray, full of life and curiosity. He was adopted quickly, and this is when Yukon’s life sadly took a turn for the worse. He was rehomed, abandoned, and picked up as a stray seven years later. Yukon was once again back at the shelter.”
After his return, Yukon has become known for being a smart dog who loves to snuggle. Though he’s older now, he has the same energy level as pups a fraction of his age.
“Yukon is a gentle and affectionate dog who loves nothing more than being by your side,” his foster family told the shelter. “He has a calm and relaxed demeanor, but he also has a playful side that comes out whenever he sees a rope or a squeaky toy.”
Yukon has spent time at the shelter and his foster home, “unofficially” becoming the animal service’s longest resident. The shelter in its post didn’t reveal why it thinks he has been overlooked for months.
As of Dec. 12, Yukon was listed among the pets available for adoption on the shelter’s website. Details about the facility’s adoption process can be found at orangecountyanimalservicesfl.net.
“He is 76lbs of muscle and mischief, so he can be a lot to handle for an inexperienced adopter,” the shelter wrote. “But if you’re used to big, obnoxious, drooly, stubborn, loves to sit in your lap and lay his huge head on you type of dog…Yukon is the one for you.”
Orange County Animal Services didn’t respond to McClatchy News’ requests for additional information on Dec. 11 and 12.
