Kayaker passes out and falls into Intracoastal Waterway in Florida. Watch the rescue
A kayaker passed out and slipped into a major boating waterway in Florida, video shows.
His friend saved him from drowning in the Intracoastal Waterway and called for help, and a crabber on a boat nearby towed them until a sheriff’s office marine deputy arrived, the Volusia Sheriff’s Office said on Facebook Sunday, Nov. 10.
The agency shared a video of the rescue. The deputy approaches and asks the kayaker’s friend whether they’re breathing, then the friend helps load the entire kayak onto the rescue boat with the kayaker on top.
“He’s got a weak pulse,” the deputy says as they race off toward land.
By the time they got there, the kayaker had no pulse and was unresponsive, a rescuer says in the video.
Paramedics started lifesaving treatment and the kayaker was taken to a hospital, where he regained a pulse and is now recovering, the agency said.
Several people praised the team’s efforts in the comments.
“Great job to all,” someone said. “Great example of team work and every day people stepping up.”
Volusia County is about a 50-mile drive northeast from Orlando.
