Shelter dog — a ‘tiny terror’ — has a ‘mad’ face but a gentle spirit. She needs a home
A dog has a “mad” face that hides a gentle spirit — and she needs a new home.
“You see Gorda is a special girl, and will need to be adopted by a special person,” a Florida animal shelter wrote Oct. 29 on Facebook. “Because as small as she is, Gorda is a tiny terror.”
Orange County Animal Services said it hopes someone will take a chance on the 35-pound dog, who has “been in and out of the shelter four times.” Most recently, she was found as a stray and surrendered.
“Gorda first came in five years ago, when she was still a pup,” the shelter wrote. “And even then she was a lot to handle. The resident who brought her in warned us that she was going after her dogs and that she was a little rowdy.”
Though shelter workers noticed Gorda was loving and friendly, she soon started fighting another dog who was almost twice as big.
“She’s good with people, sweet when she wants to be, affectionate when it suits her, and loves her treats and butt scratches,” animal services wrote. “But Gorda does not like other dogs. In fact, she can be a little troublemaker out in the yard, running the fence line to rile up the other kenneled dogs.”
Despite Gorda’s smaller stature, her name means “fat” in Spanish. The shelter said she is heartworm-positive, but the costs of her treatment may be covered. She’s also described as a 6-year-old pup with a “tough girl attitude,” according to the Facebook post and an online adoption profile.
“Gorda’s face speaks volumes,” the shelter wrote. “She always looks mad and ready to fight. But to know Gorda is to love her; with staff she is gentle, playful, and even a little bit shy. We know in the right home, with the right person, her scary attitude with dogs may change.”
As of Oct. 30, Gorda was still listed among the pets available for adoption at the shelter in Orlando. More details about the facility’s adoption process can be found at orangecountyanimalservicesfl.net.
Orange County Animal Services didn’t immediately share additional information with McClatchy News on Oct. 30.
