Here’s why packs of shortbread cookies sold exclusively at Target have been recalled
About 1,464 seven-ounce bags of Target-sold Favorite Day Lavender Shortbread Cookies have been recalled after a packaging error created a problem that’s serious to some consumers.
J&M Foods, which makes the cookies that are sold under Target’s store brand, packed Chocolate Chip cookies in the Lavender Shortbread variety’s bag. Along with a different taste, the Chocolate Chip cookies have something else the Lavender Shortbread cookies don’t — soy and egg. So, those aren’t listed among the allergens on the bags.
Most people reaching into the bag, popping in a couple of cookies and tasting Chocolate Chip instead of the expected Lavender Shortbread, might be fine or just disappointed.
But as the J&M-written, FDA-posted recall notice states, “some people who have an extreme allergy or severe sensitivity to soy or eggs could run the risk of a serious allergic reaction if they consume this product.”
A consumer alerted J&M to the problem.
This covers lot No. BB 18-APR-2023. If you have the recalled bags, there’s no chance of the cookies being eaten by someone with a soy or egg allergy and you’re good with Chocolate Chip instead of Lavender Shortbread, munch on happily.
