A Washington, D.C., man was sentenced to prison after officials said he fatally shot his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend.

Marcus Walker, 24, was sentenced to 30 years in prison in connection to the 2022 shooting death of Erik King, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

Contact information for Walker’s attorney was not available.

According to an affidavit, Walker was living with his ex-girlfriend at the time of the fatal incident. The night of Oct. 10 leading into the early morning of Oct. 11, Walker, King and the woman were hanging out at the woman’s apartment, where King was living along with his two children in the living room, court records said.

The three were watching TV in the woman’s bedroom when King asked Walker to leave so the couple could go to sleep, according to court records.

Shortly after, Walker heard as King and the woman began engaging in sexual activity. That’s when Walker sent the woman text messages, apparently upset.

“You disrespect (expletive) one cause you just met bruh (and) you was (expletive) when me and the kids up,” one message started off, according to court records.

Walker proceeded over the next hour to send the woman several more messages, telling her she showed her “true colors” and that she was trying to hurt him, court records said.

The woman told police that Walker then busted into the bedroom and told her and King to “stop,” the affidavit said. King told Walker to “just leave,” but he refused, the woman told investigators.

The woman said Walker then shot King in the chest and the “private area,” according to court records.

The woman said she asked Walker what he was doing and why he would shoot King when her daughter was in the room, to which Walker replied “I don’t care,” according to court records.

King died at the scene, officials said.

In May, Walker was found guilty of second-degree murder while armed, two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, second-degree cruelty to children, three counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence and possession of a large capacity ammunition feeding device.
