Music executive Sean “Diddy” Combs was found not guilty of federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges with links to Miami in a New York federal court Wednesday morning, according to the Associated Press.
If he had been convicted of those offenses, he was facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life behind bars.
However, the 55-year-old entertainment titan could still spend up to two decades in prison because the 12 jurors found Diddy guilty of two counts of a prostitution-related crime, a less severe charge.
The stunning verdict came after three days of deliberations — and a year after Diddy’s enclaves in Miami Beach and Los Angeles were blitzed by federal agents. Diddy was arrested in September 2024, six months after the raids.
After the verdict came in, Diddy turned to the jury, placing his hands in a prayer-like fashion, according to the AP. One of his relatives and supporters shouted, “Yeah” after learning of Diddy’s fate.
At one point, he told his loved ones “I’ll be home soon,” and “I love you, baby,” per the AP.
Diddy’s legal team requested that the rapper be granted bond so that he could return to his Miami Beach mansion. Federal prosecutors said they intend to keep Diddy in a detention center as he awaits his sentencing.
U.S. District Court Judge Arun Subramanian denied Diddy’s request to be released on bond.
The Grammy Award-winning music mogul was accused of running a “racketeering conspiracy” by having “engaged in a persistent and pervasive pattern of abuse toward women and other individuals.” Much of that alleged activity occurred at Diddy’s posh enclaves on Star Island.
