A fatal shooting that left one man dead near Brickell City Centre early Wednesday may have been self-defense, police say.

It happened around 12:45 a.m. in the area of Southwest First Avenue and Eighth Street. When officers arrived, they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds. He died at the scene, according to Miami police.

Based on officers’ preliminary investigation, a man and woman were arguing when he proceeded to point a gun at her. After another man with the couple saw the weapon being drawn, police say he pulled out his gun and shot him.

“No one is at large, and we are working with [the State Attorney’s Office] to possibly rule it as a Self Defense shooting,” police said in an email to the Herald.

Police have not released the names of anyone involved.
