Aventura real estate agent arrested as the suspect in a Miami Beach hit-and-run

An Aventura real estate agent who drives a 2019 Mercedes was arrested Tuesday, exactly a month after a hit-and-run near the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach left a woman with multiple broken bones.

Lisa Smith, 31, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury. The woman who was struck as she crossed Collins Avenue around 9 p.m. on May 9 remains in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, Miami Beach police said, “recovering from fractures throughout her body.”

According to an arrest report, another driver and surveillance cameras saw the white 2019 Mercedes shooting south on Collins Avenue “at a high rate of speed.”

Surveillance cameras saw the Mercedes hit the woman crossing around 44th Street and make a U-turn at 43rd Street. The other driver, the report says, saw a blond woman at the wheel of the Mercedes and the traffic backup behind the struck woman in the middle of Collins Avenue. The driver picked out Smith from a photo lineup.

Smith’s attorney, the report said, contacted Miami Beach police on May 10 to say his client told him she’d hit a person who crossed Collins Avenue while Smith had the green light. Investigators saw damage to Smith’s 2019 Mercedes they expected to see.

They also saw hair fibers in the windshield.
