Suspect who shot at an officer investigating a Davie crash taken into custody, cops say

A suspect who police say opened fire at an officer investigating an early morning crash in Davie was taken into custody Tuesday morning.

Police say the crash happened shortly after 2 a.m. near the area of Griffin Road and State Road 7, just north of the giant Guitar Hotel.

Video taken by WSVN shows two cars with front-end damage near the intersection, in front of Happy Pappy Liquors. A Wendy’s and a Wawa under construction also are nearby.

Officers had just arrived to investigate the crash when police say someone began shooting at one of the officers.

Davie police Lt. Mark Leone says no one was injured and that none of the officers returned fire.

A search soon began in the area for the shooter, and the suspect was later found and taken into custody, Leone said.

No other information was immediately available.
