Surveillance video shows robber trying to get a big gulp of cash at 7-Eleven

A man wearing a jacket with the number "23" and a skull cap walked into a Naranja 7-Eleven, headed straight to the check-out counter, pulled a handgun out of his pocket, and pointed it at the clerk, surveillance video released Monday showed.

The robbery-turned-shooting July 2 at the convenience store, 13690 SW 268 St., left a cashier wounded after a bullet entered through her arm and traveled to her chest.

It was the clothes — and the video — that led police to 19-year-old Tavis Williams, who was arrested about 10 hours after the crime. Williams, who lives about a mile from the 7-Eleven, is being held at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on charges that include attempted second-degree murder and armed robbery.

The one-minute-and-16-second video begins with a man opening the glass doors, hustling to the counter, and holding his gun over the bananas on the counter.

A cashier can then be seen walking toward the back and the man, who police say was Williams, runs around the condiment station to the back offices where he pushed open the door and went inside.

A manager in the office tussled with Williams, before he was able to get the clerk out to the front register. The video shows the man forcing the manager to fill a bag with cash.

After getting the cash, the man can be seen sprinting out the door.
