Front-line workers at 34 South Florida hospitals will be honored in military flyover
If you missed the Navy’s Blue Angels zipping by in a salute to front-line workers earlier this month, you have another chance to see a “Salute Flight.”
In honor of Memorial Day, four U.S. Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft will soar over 34 South Florida hospitals from the Keys to Palm Beach County. Additionally, a U.S. Coast Guard MH65 helicopter and a U.S. Coast Guard C-144 aircraft, will have a different flight path and fly over 16 South Florida hospitals.
“There is no better time than Memorial Day weekend to pay tribute to our military, first responders, and those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice on behalf of our freedom,” Mickey Markoff, executive producer of National Salute to America’s Heroes, said in a statement. “We are honored to work with our local military friends to create this flyover to honor those who are heroically serving on the front lines responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
The flight, which will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, is part of The National Salute to America’s Heroes, presented by Hyundai, along with the Homestead U.S. Air Force base and the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami. Hyundai’s Air & Sea Show in Miami Beach, which was scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, has been pushed to May 29-30, 2021.
The flight is a way to thank first responders, military, and other essential personnel for their work during the pandemic.
Anyone who is in the path of flight can expect to hear jet noise, according to a press release. Spectators are being asked to not travel anywhere to see the flyover.
People are being encouraged to post pictures and comments on social media about the flyover with the hashtag #SaluteFlight, #Salute365 and #USASalute.
The flyover can be viewed on the National Salute to America’s Heroes on its Facebook page.

Jones, Commander, Seventh Coast Guard District, said in a news release. “As demonstrated through the ongoing coronavirus crisis, that ethos clearly guides our dedicated first responders, nurses, doctors, and healthcare workers as well. This Memorial Day, as so many are serving to protect fellow citizens from this virus, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
