Navy’s Blue Angels to buzz over Miami to honor healthcare workers and first responders

They buzzed over New York, Newark and Philadelphia. They did the same over Houston, Dallas and New Orleans.

They did it over the National Mall in D.C., too.

Now the Blue Angels of the U.S. Navy will fly in formation above South Florida from Boca Raton to Homestead to salute South Florida’s healthcare workers, frontline workers and first responders.

The flyover happens from 1 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. Friday, May 8, according to the city of Miami.

The Blue Angels’ flight plan will enter air space first from Boca Raton and travel south into Broward and then Miami-Dade counties. The idea is to fly over as many hospitals as possible but to still hug the shoreline.

The farthest point south will be Homestead’s air space and then the Blue Angels turn back north up and away — all in all, a 25-minute salute.

Jennie Drexler, a nurse manager of critical care at Mount Sinai West in Manhattan, told CBS News she was grateful for the honor.

“To be honored by them signifies the courage we have shown. We had to step up and rise to the moment In this crisis and we pulled through. It almost signifies the courage of nursing during this virus.”
